Rev. Isreal Earl Holmes was born in Pelly, Texas, which is now called Baytown, Texas. His parents, Wilbert and Georgia Holmes moved from Baytown to Barrett Station, where he attended Charles R. Drew High School. After graduation he was drafted into the Army and was sent overseas on a tour of duty. He completed his time in the Army in 1968.
During Rev. Holmes early years, the Lord was preparing him to preach the uncompromising Gospel which lead him to announce his calling to the Ministry.
Rev. Isreal Holmes attended Greater Northside Antioch Baptist Church.
While at Greater Northside he worked as the Youth Pastor. After a few years, the Lord placed on his heart to move. He joined Outreach Missionary Baptist Church where he worked with the Youth Department, as a Senior Citizen Teacher and actively participated with the Street Preaching Team.
God Blessed Rev. Holmes to Pastor Greater St. John Baptist Church, his first church, for two years. Then the Lord lead Rev. Holmes to Pastor at First Baptist Church in Silsbee, Texas where he remained for eight years. Later Rev. Holmes joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. George Sterling Mathews. On July 18, 1995 Rev. Mathews passed away and the church began to actively search for another leader.
On July 29, 1996, Rev. Holmes succeeded Rev. Mathews by winning the pastoral election by 120 votes and, became the next Pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. This was a record setting day of deliverance for the church in its 120th year history. On August 4, 1996, Shiloh members acknowledged and welcomed their new Shepherd. Twenty-two members joined that day after listening to Pastor Holmes powerful message, ‘One Church One Body’. Emphasis was placed on the fact that every person in the church as a spiritual gift from God. In the years past, the vision has been brightened and the mission is to keep pressing onward.
Today, Pastor Holmes encourage everyone to utilize their spiritual gifts that has bestowed upon them and, pray that God continues to Bless everything that is to the glory and honor of His name. He is also the proud father of three children, Cornelius, Marcella, and Sheronda and grandfather of three. Standing at his side is his wife, Linda Holmes.
